Are you looking for ways to earn extra cash from home? If yes, then these side hustle ideas might interest you.

I have made a list of side hustles I like in the past however for today's post I wanted to be focusing on side hustles that you can start from home to make a little side cash or, depending on your success, maybe even make a significant income.

Starting a side hustle at home can be a great way to generate some additional income without having to leave your house. These side hustles don’t require much investment or time commitment, so they are perfect for those who want to start earning extra money.

I'm sure all of us would be happy to make a little extra money in their spare time. Especially with the cost of living crisis in the wester world. The methods below can potentially provide extra income or even passive income to support your current job.

In some cases, you may be able to take one of these side hustles and turn them into a full-time job with enough work. I hope you enjoy my list.

Here are 20 side hustles you can start today.

1. QA Testing (UserTesting)

If you enjoy testing websites and apps with users, this is one side hustle idea that could work well for you. It’s easy to sign up for UserTesting where you will be presented with different tasks such as finding bugs, checking usability, and more. Once you complete each task, you get paid via PayPal.

I've had my User Testing account for multiple years now and the platform is great for earning a little bit of extra cash in your spare time without having to leave your home. Essentially businesses who need their websites tested will approach User Testing asking for some website tests. Testers on User Testing will receive a notification that their is a new test available.

On a first come, first serve basis, Testers will apply for the test. Usually a few questions may be asked to see if you are correct for the test. Using the User Testing custom screen recorder, the tester (you) will then be prompted to carry out tasks on the website and describe your experience as you go throughout.

Don't worry if you struggle doing one of the tasks. Just give it your best shot and if you can't do it then let the website owner know that you find the task hard and why you find the task hard. This is the overall purpose of these tests; finding out what isn't working the best and where the business can be improved.

2. Sell Things On eBay.

Selling things on eBay is another side hustle idea that can bring in an additional stream of income. The trick here is to figure out how to sell things online cheaply enough.

You'll need to determine whether selling items on eBay is right for you before getting started. Do you have any previous experience selling things online? Do you know the type of items you want to sell?

Thankfully on eBay you can sell almost anything. You can sell stuff you have made yourself, bought second hand or found around the house. But, you must remember that there are fees involved when listing items on eBay which means you'll need to price them accordingly.

3. Create an Etsy Shop.

Etsy is a popular site for handmade goods. Handmade products are a big trend right now, which makes them a good choice when starting a side hustle.

Products on Etsy tend to be unique, creative, and affordable. As long as you create high-quality handmade products, you should be able to make a good profit on each item sold. Depending on the type of products you sell you may be able to do this job 100% at home.

Etsy allows selling of digital products which you can make on a PC and redistribute through Etsy. You may also have products you can make with supplies delivered to your property and getting your customers deliveries picked up from your house. In the UK the Royal Mail provides a service to collect parcels for delivery directly from your house.

If going to the post office isn't too big of a deal then it can possibly save you some money on deliveries.

4. Start A Blog.

Blogging is a great side hustle to start from home. If done on the correct platform it is possible to have £0 start-up costs. Platforms such as Medium allow people to create blogs for free although they do have a paid subscription with better features for only $4.99.

Medium also allows their writers to earn money through the Medium Partner Program (MPP). I personally have been writing on medium for roughly 5 months and last month (August) was the first month where I made more through the MPP then it cost me for the medium subscription.

This was done posting 3 times per week for the whole duration. This means over the last few months I've spent no more than $25 on the medium subscription where now any future months will work towards making this money back assuming the blog continues to make at least the $4.99.

This of course is slow compared to many other business, but the great thing is if for whatever reason you need to not work on the blog for a little while; That may be for a vacation or due to illness for example. You would still see the blog generate income.

As long as it's online, gaining views and setup with some methods of generating revenue (e.g. showing ads, affiliate marketing) then it should work great to provide an extra income.

Now it isn't easy to run a blog. One blog post isn't too bad but the key is to stick to it over a long period. Most of the views and subsequently revenue will come months after working on the blog while views build up and your blog gets picked up by search engines.

5. Write Articles For Other Websites.

Writing articles is something anyone can do from anywhere in the world. There's not much competition or skills required to get started.

The key to success is being able to write quality content that other websites want to publish. It's important to remember that most sites don't pay very well so you're looking at having to produce a lot of content to make a decent amount of money.

To get started doing this, you may decide to either send websites articles which you have made and ask if they would like to post them. Until you have a portfolio of work you may need to get paid very little or nothing at all just to get some work behind your name.

6. Become An Affiliate Marketer.

Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money from home. All you need is a website and a way to promote other companies' products.

This method can technically be merged with some other tactics on this list like making a website or making a blog. Affiliate marketing is broad enough that I felt it could be it's own point.

For those that don't know, affiliate marketing is where you recommend products on your platform and when someone clicks on the link and purchases the product you receive a commission. The best part about affiliate marketing is that there are usually no upfront costs.

You simply sign up with an affiliate network and once you've built up a following you'll be given unique links to share on your site. When visitors click these links they go to the merchant's website and purchase the product.

You'll earn commissions based on sales generated through your site. Some networks offer a fixed rate while others pay a percentage of the sale.

7. Do Freelance Work From Home.

Freelancing is another great option if you want to make money from home while still being able to work flexible hours. The best thing about freelancing is that there are literally thousands of different types of jobs available.

Some examples include: writing, editing, proofreading, graphic design, programming, customer service, data entry, virtual assistant, etc. Essentially anything that you can do which you can teach or sell to other people can be turned into a freelancing job.

8. Get Paid To Take Surveys.

Surveys aren't just useful for gathering information, but they can be used to make extra cash. Many online businesses hire individuals to take surveys because they know how valuable user generated content is.

Taking surveys to get paid online is one of the oldest methods available to the online side hustle. This method by no means will make you rich and likely will not even make a full time income. This method is good for making a little bit of extra cash or sometimes you may be able to redeem gift cards and money off certain products and stores.

9. Rent Out Your Living Space.

If you live in an area where temporary accommodation is expensive, why not rent out your spare room? Sites like Airbnb, Roomorama and Wimdu can help travellers find short term accommodation in private homes.

Of course having someone live in your property may leave a bigger impact on your life however, there likely won't be a huge amount of work needed on your end if the space is already available.

10. Be A Virtual Assistant.

Are you good with putting together spreadsheets, designing forms, managing social media accounts, or even blogging? Perhaps you could turn those skills into a business. Find clients via sites like Elance and Odesk.

Virtual Assistants are often hired for their technical skills as well as their ability to complete tasks quickly. If you have experience working with computers or even just have a good grasp on what to do, then you may be able to make a good amount of money out of this lucrative side hustle.

Many people who seek virtual assistants are doing so to handle administrative tasks such as bookkeeping, answering emails, scheduling appointments, etc. However, it is possible to find more creative projects too.

11. Start a Website

Starting a website isn't as difficult as it once was. With the right tools, it can be done by almost anyone. There are many website builder software companies such as Wix, SquareSpace, Weebly and GoDaddy which allow people to create their own unique site without needing any technical knowledge.

You may decide that programming is required for very specific and advanced websites/application. At which point it may be worth either learning to program yourself or even hiring a program to create your ideas.

12. Transcribe Audio Files.

Another simple idea would be to transcribe audio files. If you have a background in transcription then this might be something suitable for you. Or even if your simply fast at typing then this hustle may be worth your time.

Websites such as Rev.com work in a similar way to sites like UserTesting.com but instead of websites needing testing, a person or company needs some audio transcribed. Rev.com will take the audio from their clients and disperse it amongst their transcriptionists where the transcriptionist gets paid for their work.

If you do want to sign up to Rev.com then you must study up on their transcription rules as your first period on Rev.com is reviewed and if you make too many mistakes then you aren't allowed to transcribe anymore.

13. Tutor Students Online.

Tutoring students online is another great side hustle because you can set your own schedule around teaching. This is a win-win situation because you get to teach while making money at the same time.

There are many tutors who offer lessons through platforms like Skype, Udemy, and Facebook. All you need to do is create a profile, upload some samples of your work, and start teaching!

If you don't have any samples of work then helping family members or friends can be a good way to build up a little portfolio.

14. Pet sitting

Pet sitting is a service that has been growing in popularity over the past few years. People love having their pets taken care of when they're away, so why not provide them with that service?

The best thing about pet sitting is that you don't need to have any experience. All you need is a loving heart and a safe place for your furry friend(s).
